Today was an awesome opening day for Alta, not too packed, but fun skiing and plenty of sun… Alta was also giving away ski passes in exchange for old jackets to be donated to the homeless shelter, which was wildly successful making thousands of homeless people much warmer this winter!! Tonight if you’re in SLC come on down to the Gallivan Center for the Fat Flake Festival!

The time has come. We (you and I) have the power, and inherently the responsibility, to project our social and political dissatisfactions and desires into the public sphere. In less than a week Our country will decide whether we would like to go down the current, well set self-destructive path, or choose the one less traveled by. It is up to people like us, the ones who know and understand that as a citizens of a World Power we have the responsibility to act for the sake of the entirety of humanity, to go out and make whatever voice we may foster heard. Please don’t degrade either of us by saying that it won’t matter, and that voting doesn’t matter, and that one vote couldn’t possibly make a difference. I promise you on all counts that it does and it will. So I entreat you, I implore you, and I challenge you: Vote. Now. While you still have the chance.

A Little Time Off Now It’s Back To Work

I missed some days there… Well, weeks actually, but it’s back to journaling. It is the middle of October and there has been a whole bunch of wild stuff happening in the world. Last weekend I was a competitor in a tall bike joust off, which was really fun, if goofy as hell. Keith Carlsen came with the holga to shoot the madness, so hopefully I will be able to show some of those photos soon. I have been spending all of the extra time that I have had from avoiding the computer to read a whole lot and of course; pedal. I will have the helmet cam footage of the tall joust up in the next couple of days, will link to it here on the site, and tonight I will be heading to Brewvies for the salt lake showing of Hand Cut, by Sweetgrass.

Oh Re Gun!!

It was a long gorgeous pedal, and by the end of it I was just about ready for a day to sit on the beach and relax, but I love Portland, so I’m not about to sit around and not enjoy it… Each day of the ride we would push on until the sun would start to set and then keep a look out for our night’s sleep spot. All it all with no real plan and no desire to stay in a campground it went incredibly well. Every night right as it got dark we would find an amazing camp and set up for the night. Sleeping under the stars by the ocean is any fairytale of heaven could hope for. Each morning waking by the sunlight and packing up everything in the world that I needed at that moment and pulling my own weight to anywhere I wanted (which remained on the coast) is a wonderful way to live. After the riding portion of the trip was complete I spent time with some of my best friends in the world in Portland, biking around the city, talking and generally enjoying myself. Afterwards I ended up sitting in Redding CA for about 27 hours waiting as Julian hitchhiked to the car which we had left in Orick before the pedal. I had a good book, but I was having trouble concentrating. Once Jules finally showed up and we got packed quickly, and with the liberal application of caffeine drove all through the night only to stop in Boise for a brief layover before driving all the way to the Mangy Moose (bar) in Jackson Hole. Liberally apply more caffeine. Come on body, let’s do it again… Waking the next morning on little more than a couple hours of sleep the only logical option was to do breakfast at Nora’s then march on to SLC. Home. Sleep… oh, wait… actually I went dirt jumping. then sleep. Regardless, here are a few photos that haven’t been posted of the trip. Enjoy.

The ride to Portland was amazing. Being in Portland was amazing (everytimeI go there I wonder why the hell I’m leaving…) This morning was an early one, but that’s no stranger. The alarm rings, you sit up. No more rest for the mercilessly active. 5am. Load all belongings back onto the bike, pedal pedal. Greyhound station. Take apart the bikes. Box them up. Climb on board. Ever try to sleep on a bus? Restful isn’t exactly right… Painful maybe?? 6.30 am to 5.00 pm. Hello California! Well it turns out there’s time to kill here in Redding and this Computer in this Library is the murder weapon. Tomorrow: east! Jackson Hole. Probably not one shot, but Boise could be a party waiting to happen… I suppose there’s one way to find out.
