September 17

Salt Lake City has prematurely gone into fall time. No complaints here, I mean, it really feels fantastic not having to sleep in as little as possible on top of the covers and still sleep badly, and wearing a sweatshirt early in the morning? Fantastic! I noticed yesterday that it was the same temperature here as in Anchorage, AK. That’s a little crazy for August in the desert. But enough about the weather… I have been a busy bee trying to make good use of my time in SLC as I will likely be here for the next month or so anyways. The bike is getting the usual workout, I have been climbing rocks, and I even wandered to San Diego for a long weekend and now have a hypodermic surfboard stuck in the readily apparent veins of my left arm.
Out here in the desert it’s not always good times for me; I miss the ocean and the trees, this desert is missing something, but the truth is I really don’t believe in having a bad time, so I’m making the best of it all. Last week I went out to the Salt Flats near Wendover for the Speedweek, where cars were going up to 400mph. Wild. Super wild. It was certainly, to it’s credit, out of my element. Something that I will likely never see again or in any other circumstance, people that come from a totally different world than me with a totally different set of values and habits doing something that it would really never occur to me to even try to do. Wild. But that’s why I liked it.
Thursday is just around the corner and for me here in Salt City that means that I get to go see Iron and Wine for free, and as it turns out they are one of my favorite bands out there, so the excito-meter is high. Ok, I’m really tired and I am starting to write like crap, so I’m going to bed. Good night, and sweet dreams.

Always,
Cody
