I’m as much a Student as a Teacher.
As a recap; I spent a good month and a half recently in Whistler coaching at Camp of Champions. This extra summer time on snow opened the door for me to do two things that I enjoy as much as anything else in life: Teach and Learn. The majority of my time was, of course, spent as teacher, instructing the pro-shreds of tomorrow on proper pop and spin technique as well as (who could forget) back-flip day! I watched some of my campers beat their bodies harder than I’ve seen anyone beat down in as long as I can remember trying and trying to learn new tricks and concepts. Conversely, I was able to take a bit of me time and ride with some of the other coaches and pro-campers and learn a few new tricks of my own… Even now, off of snow for a week and a half, and months until the next time I’m on it, I can’t wait to get back up on the mountain and work on taking everything I learned in the park into the powder and natural features.
Until then: biking, climbing, getting in scrappy shape for the winter so that I don’t break myself in half with these new tricks… I’m also planning a bike tour through the Redwoods and up the Oregon coast ending up in Portland with Julian Carr this coming fall which I am getting my bike muscles in shape for as well.
